About Us
Individual consultancy and assessments
The Institute will provide consultancy and assessment services to
families and professionals. These range from detailed developmental
assessments for individual children through to advisory services for
Local Education Authorities.
Training services
The Bahrain Institute for Special Education will provide a series of
regular workshops and conferences, visiting lectures and seminars, and
presents at many major national and international conferences.
Workshops
The Bahrain Institute for Special Education will run a range of
workshops at The Institute, for parents and professionals, throughout
the year. These address education, early development, health behavioural
and family support issues.
This unit also contributes to the continuous professional development of
BISE personnel specialists through internal weekly meetings, where
specialised topics and issues are discussed and consequently experiences
and skills are exchanged among them.
Conferences
The Bahrain Institute for Special Education is planning to organise
family weekend conferences, usually twice each year and other
conferences from time to time.
Visiting lectures and workshops
The Bahrain Institute for Special Education staff will be able to offer
workshop and lectures, tailored to the particular requirements of parent
groups or practitioners, anywhere in Bahrain and the Gulf region.
Support, advisory and consultancy services
The Bahrain Institute for Special Education BISE will offer a variety of
services to families and professionals. These include an Advice Line,
Open Days at The institute, Early Development Groups, schools
consultancy,, and individual consultancy and assessments.
Advice Line
The Bahrain Institute for Special Education is planning to provide
information and advice about a wide range of developmental, educational,
behavioural, and health issues to families, teachers and other
professionals. Our Advice Line will be staffed by qualified
professionals.
Open Days at the Institute
Open Days at The institute are to be held for families and professionals
during school holidays, and offer the opportunity for families to meet
each other and to meet The Bahrain Institute for Special Education BISE
staff. Informal consultations with the professional staff can be
arranged during Open Days. These short consultations provide advice and
guidance, and enable families to find out more about The Bahrain
Institute for Special Education.
Resources for families, practitioners and researchers
Visitors are always welcome at the Institute. We are intending to have a
small specialist library available, which is planned to be expanded.
Visitors can also get information about our services and are welcome to
browse through our range of books, videos, teaching materials, journals
and periodicals. The library will have computer resources and Internet
access.
Educational groups
A range of early education groups will be available for pre-school
children whose families are within a reasonable travelling distance from
The Institute. These groups provide structured activities on a regular
basis to promote development, with a particular focus on speech,
language, literacy and cognitive development.
